It begins during your regular preventative care visits to your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will conduct a visual oral examination to evaluate tooth and gum health, alignment of the bite, and check for abnormalities such as tumors, broken teeth or diseases. If dental issues are observed by your veterinarian, they will suggest a free dental consult for a more thorough dental exam and estimate.

Dental Care

Vaccination
When you fly domestically with your pet, you will need a domestic health certificate and proof of rabies vaccination. We are happy to provide our clients with this paperwork prior to your trip.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
We also provide in-house measurements of blood pressure, ocular pressure (tonometry to test for glaucoma), and ear and skin cytology.
Nutritional Counseling
As a self-proclaimed “cat lady,” Dr. Budgin has a keen interest in feline dermatology, however she is also a “true dog lover” at heart. Her additional areas of interest include diet and nutrition in the management of allergic skin disease, treatment of drug resistant infections, and immune-mediated skin diseases. Dr. Budgin has published articles pertaining to veterinary dermatology in various journals and has presented at conferences throughout the world.

After several years open as Gotham Veterinary Center I pursued my interest in canine rehabilitation. I had been helped by a very talented physical therapist on several occasions and wanted to provide care beyond medications and rest for pets needing rehabilitation after orthopedic or neurologic surgery or for problems relating to mobility secondary to trauma or osteoarthritis. This pursuit led to my certification in canine rehabilitation by both the University of Tennessee and the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Then in 2014 I opened Canine Rehab of New York. One of our first patients, Charlie, was unable to walk 3 weeks after his back surgery. His hind legs didn’t move and he could not eliminate on his own. Charlie’s owner had to leave town and left him with us for two weeks. We love Charlie and we worked with him every day. When his mother returned, Charlie went running up to her and it was an incredibly joyous moment for all of us! This was why I had opened Canine Rehab and why we are all veterinarians!

I am a born and bred New Yorker and as a child always wanted a pet but unfortunately I had to defer that wish until I was an adult. My first career was as a lighting designer in the theatre and I fell in love with a Golden Retriever named Ginger who traveled with me while working in various cities. Ginger went everywhere with me and I would not accept a new job unless the new job also took Ginger. Ginger was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 1 year of age and started my interest in veterinary medicine. With the decision to go to veterinary school came a second Golden Retriever named Chelsea and both Ginger and Chelsea were my constant companions through veterinary school, my internship and my residency in internal medicine in NYC and my first job as a veterinarian.

Dr. Matt Miller is a Kentucky native who fell in love with New York after spending a summer here writing for Slate magazine in 2016. Although his parents disliked animals, Dr. Miller discovered a passion for them by volunteering with friends at various humane societies and rescue groups back home. He graduated from Auburn University’s vet school in 2019, and has been practicing in the city ever since. He has special interests in pathology, neurology, dermatology and soft tissue surgery. In his free time, he works as a magazine editor, freelance journalist and fiction writer.

Dr. Karla D. Kovach completed her undergraduate degree at Tulane University and then graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship in small animal surgery and medicine at Bergh Memorial (ASPCA) in NYC, followed by a surgical internship in Boston, and an internship in orthopedic surgery & neurosurgery in London.
Spaying and Neutering
From 1999 to 2004, Bonnie was a surgeon for the Fund for Animals’ Have-A-Heart Spay and Neuter Clinic. She continued to work in private practice during that time, initially at Animal General. In 2001, she was appointed Chief of Staff at Ansonia Veterinary Center, where she served for five years. Bonnie then started her own practice, Gotham Veterinary Center, which she operated from within City Veterinary Care. During this early incarnation of Gotham, Bonnie provided care to her own patients while designing and building a new home for her practice. She opened the doors of Gotham Veterinary Center on November 11, 2009, welcoming new and continuing clients and their pets. Bonnie is certified in canine rehabilitation through both the University of Tennessee and the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Bonnie opened Canine Rehab of NY in 2014 and lives in Manhattan with her dog Ted and has two wonderful sons, David and Steven.

We have an in-house laboratory for critical care blood analysis, and we offer comprehensive testing through our offsite diagnostic laboratory with patient samples being picked up three times daily and test results available early the following day.

We offer a variety of imaging services to assist our doctors in diagnosing and treating your pet. These include digital x-rays, digital dental x-rays and medical ultrasound performed by a Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist.
