I am from New Orleans and have been for years to get a good King Cake up here in St Louis. I am sorry to saw that McArthur's does not have it! I know they have other fantastic products, but the king cake is not one of them. First off, it was the wrong shape. That would have been fine, but the taste of the cake was wrong also! My 9 year old daughter spit it out and said it was not right. The texture was off as well. Guess I will be sticking with ordering and New Orleans. Rouse's is the best for anyone who wants authentic King Cake.

Most of the time the quality of the cakes is good, but I have found the staff not very polite/professional. One day I walked in there with my 7 year old daughter to get some desserts. They close at 7 and we were there around 6:20-6:30. The girl working there rushed my daughter, by asking a hundred times impatiently " anything else, anything else?" It was clear they wanted us out of there, like we were an inconvenience. Very disappointed with this kind of service!!!!!! If you want to be out of there by 7, maybe you should consider posting the closing time at 6:30.

The bakery goods are wonderful for the most part. Oatmeal cookies are not cooked enough.
Just stopped by with a buy one get one free sandwich coupon and ordered 2 Trio subs @ $5.04 each and picked up a small bag of cookies marked $1.35. I was charged $8.34. While I waited, I realized that was too much. When I asked the guy at the deli counter, he asked for my receipt. He didn't give me one, so I had no proof. I told him I felt cheated and walked out.

I enjoy Krispy Kreme donuts now that we can get them in St.Louis, but I grew up eating donuts from neighborhood bakeries. When I want old fashioned donuts that taste fresh, I always go to McArthur's Bakery in Kirkwood.
It's not a big place, but they have some tables you can sit at in the back and visit with friends or family over coffee and donuts.
Their prices are reasonable and they usually have lots of other tasty treats to tempt you if you are not a donut freak like me.
Stop in sometime!!

i do love the taste of every cake iv ever tried from here and so when it came time to order my baby shower cake i was more than excited..always expensive but worth every cent spent. I went all out and got the huge cake and half white half chocolate with cherry filling and it tasted absolutely wonderful...but one bad thing they do fail at almost every time..the colors you pick...if you want it perfect go to McArthur's..just not on lemay ferry.

i spent 6 months planning my sons first bday party!!! who knew that one cake could ruin the WHOLE DAY!!!! i ordered a TURQUOIS cake with lime green poka dots. when i looked at it in the store i could hardly tell what color the cake was so i took it home. sure enough when i got home & looked at the cake under the light it was EMERALD GREEN with lime green poka dots. i couldnt even call up there i was soo mad i was too afarid i would explode on someone.. i had my mother do it for me. when my mother told them we needed a new cake they said:: oh im sorry we sent all of our bakers home early today!!! (which is not my problem). so instead of have that hideous cake ruin the day i spent forever planning, my mother & i stayed up until 3 am baking & decorating cup cakes. but dont worry, we took the cake back & after convincing some guy who i think was named TIM that we werent wasting more money to drive all the way out to south county to return a wothless cake. recieved a full refund from the kirkwood store... in cash!!!!! THANKS MCARTHUR'S!! they also screwed up a cake that my gma ordered from them. it was lop-sided... when she said something about it they said:: no one will notice. but she made it fix it... i guess they need to hire bakers who know what they are doing.
